In 1981 Pete Velentzas and his wife Effie and children, John and Eirene, move to the united states the land of opportunity in hope of fullfilling his lifelong dream which was to open up his own greek restaurant.

in the summer of 1988 his dream come true when he opened the 1st john the greek restaurant named after his son on harry wurzbach near fort sam houston gates after many years of serving authentic greek food customers were sad to see restaurant close in 2006.

Pete has also achieved fame outside local circles H-E-B carries bottle of his greek salad dressing in 110 stores across texas.

In 1999 john joined the family business and opened the second john the greek located at 16602 san pedro ave in the park oaks shopping center.

Over the years the new customers as well regular customer have commented on how the food and service are of the highest quality and has the most extensive greek menu in town.Another reason people love to return to john the greek restaurant is that everyone has fun here especially on friday and saturday nights. we have belly dancers entertain the customers while they enjoy their food.
